The Shirelles : The Shirelles were an African-American girl group that achieved popularity in the early 1960s, and the first to have a number one single on the Billboard Hot 100; the band consisted of schoolmates Shirley Owens, Doris Coley, Addie "Micki" Harris, and Beverly Lee. Founded as The Poquellos or The Pequellos in 1957 for a talent show at the girls' high school, the girls were signed by Florence Greenberg of Tiara Records after several months of courtship. Their first single, "I Met Him on a Sunday", was released by Tiara and licensed by Decca Records in 1958. After a brief and unsuccessful period with Decca, they went with Greenberg to her newly-formed company Scepter Records. Working with Luther Dixon, the group rose to fame with "Tonight's the Night", later becoming the first African-American girl group to top the Billboard Hot 100 with their song "Will You Love Me Tomorrow". After a successful period of collaboration with Dixon and promotion by Scepter, the group left the company after discovering that Greenberg had not kept a trust fund for them as promised. After departing Scepter, they were unable to keep their previous popularity due to the numerous girl bands and ongoing British Invasion; their last single to chart, "Last Minute Miracle", only reached #99.

Ray Charles : Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004), known by his shortened stage name Ray Charles, was an American musician. He was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm and blues, gospel, and blues styles into his early recordings with Atlantic Records. He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his Modern Sounds albums. While with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company. Frank Sinatra called Charles “the only true genius in show business.” The influences upon his music were mainly jazz, blues, rhythm and blues and country artists of the day such as Art Tatum, Nat King Cole, Louis Jordan, Charles Brown, Louis Armstrong. His playing reflected influences from country blues and barrelhouse, and stride piano styles.

** Christoph Willibald Gluck

1. (Fritz Kreisler) Melody    2. Orphee et Eurydice

Christoph Willibald Gluck : Christoph Willibald Ritter von Gluck (2 July 1714 in Erasbach near Berching (Upper Palatinate) – 15 November 1787 in Vienna) was an opera composer of the early classical period. After many years at the Habsburg court at Vienna, Gluck brought about the practical reform of opera's dramaturgical practices that many intellectuals had been campaigning for over the years. With a series of radical new works in the 1760s, among them Orfeo ed Euridice and Alceste, he broke the stranglehold that Metastasian opera seria had enjoyed for much of the century. The strong influence of French opera in these works encouraged Gluck to move to Paris, which he did in November 1773. Fusing the traditions of Italian opera and the French national genre into a new synthesis, Gluck wrote eight operas for the Parisian stages. One of the last of these, Iphigénie en Tauride, was a great success and is generally acknowledged to be his finest work. Though he was extremely popular and widely credited with bringing about a revolution in French opera, Gluck's mastery of the Parisian operatic scene was never absolute, and after the poor reception of his Echo et Narcisse he left Paris in disgust and returned to Vienna to live out the remainder of his life.
